We are very lucky and privelleged to fly at many wonderful sites within a short drive of the RDU area.  Please follow club and airport rules when flying any of these sites and most importantly do not fly these sites without a club member who is familiar with the neccessary procedures at each site.

Massengill's and Barefoot's - Meadow, NC
The club's newest and currently most used sites are just 30 minutes from downtown Raleigh.  These aerotow strips were graciously opened to us in 2007 by James Massengill, Russell Barefoot and Wayne Barefoot.  The XC potential has yet to be explored but so far we've had flights of over 3 hours and up to 5,500' agl here!  The due E-W grass strips are 2,500' long and 80-100' wide in the middle of acres and acres of cotton and sweet potatoes.  The surrounding area is farmland, and pig or turkey farms as far as the eye can see.  We are currently working very hard to make these sites the premier hang gliding site in all of North Carolina.  These sites are privately owned and thus very sensitive, so it can only be flown with the guidance of a CCTTSC member.

Martin County Airport KMCZ - Robersonville, NC
The newest site opened by an intrepid member of our club and quickly becoming one our favorites. The runway faces 21/3 so a bit more South than SouthWest and the wind seems to cross from the West whenever we're there, but its a great location and we're thrilled to fly there. It has very little GA traffic and best of all, its a very easy 90 minute drive from Raleigh. With this site being so new, please do not fly here without an experienced club member.

Marlboro County Jetport - H.E. Avent Field KBBP - Bennettsville, SC
One of the club's favorite sites.  Thermal generators are plentiful and it has very low GA traffic.  The SW-NE runway matches the direction of the prevailing winds of the area.  Airport management is very supportive & friendly.  This is a good site for beginner pilots.  LZs abound everywhere.  Can be good thermal site for XC & hanging out at cloud base around the airport.  Three watertowers around the outskirts of town make for a nice triangle task for pilots who want to hone their triangle skills.

Darlington County Jetport KUDG - Darlington, SC
One of our most used sites due to multiple runways and very low GA traffic.  We use the 2 inactive runways (34-16 and 28-10). Airport management is very supportive & friendly.  Good site for beginner pilots.  LZs abound everywhere.  Can be good thermal site for XC and just hanging out at cloud base.

Curtis L. Brown Jr. Field Airport KEYF - Elizabeththown, NC
A nice site to fly.  Not used as frequently by the club.  Good idea to call the FBO before making the drive to this site. Can be good thermal site.  Cannot fly at this site if more than 30 degrees cross from the west due to power lines that run along the road to the east of the runway.  GA traffic is light to moderate.  Occassionally you get a pilot doing a lot of touch-and-goes.

Emporia/Greenville Regional Airport KEMV - Emporia, VA

Lexington/Davidson County Airport KEXX - Lexington, NC
We obtained permission to fly here in 2002.  It can have high levels of GA traffic.  Must fly with a radio at this site.  LZ limited to grass strips beside runway.  Still, they offer plenty of room.  Hang glider traffic does landing pattern over FBO.
